The Bedfordshire Cloth Nappy Library

What is a cloth nappy library?

Choosing reusable nappies can feel confusing at first. A cloth nappy library is a simple way to try different types of nappies, so you can find the right ones for your child and get a good fit before you buy.

Bedfordshire Cloth Nappy Library

Bedfordshire Cloth Nappy Library offers a hire service and free, impartial advice to help you choose the best reusable nappies for your family.

The library is non-profit. All hire fees and donations go back into keeping the kits up to date and making more nappies available for others to borrow. Volunteers can also give demonstrations at ante-natal classes or community groups.

Whether you are new to cloth nappies or already use them part-time or full-time, the library can help you try different brands.

Nappy kits

You can hire two types of kit:

  • Newborn kit: includes small nappies for babies up to around 10 lbs / 4.5 kg. It provides everything you need from birth until your baby fits into birth-to-potty nappies. Hire period: 3 months
  • Birth-to-potty (BTP) kit: includes a range of nappies currently on the market, plus popular past brands you can buy second-hand. It is designed as a try-before-you-buy kit. Hire period: 4 weeks

Hire costs £15 per kit, plus a refundable deposit of £60 to cover loss or damage. Each kit includes around 30 nappies, a nappy bucket, wet bags for when you are out and about, extra boosters for absorbency, and both flushable and washable liners. In short, everything you need to use reusable nappies.
